  1. Trauma Education: This component involves providing information and knowledge about trauma, including its causes, types, symptoms, and the impact it can have on individuals’ physical and mental health. Trauma education helps individuals, including professionals like therapists, counselors, educators, and first responders, to better understand the nature of trauma. This knowledge can be used to improve the care and support provided to those who have experienced trauma.
  2. Trauma Intervention: Trauma intervention involves the actions taken to help individuals who have experienced trauma. This can encompass a range of approaches, including:
    • Therapeutic Support: Providing counseling or therapy to help individuals process their trauma, manage symptoms, and develop coping strategies.
    • Crisis Intervention: Offering immediate support to individuals in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic event to help them stabilize emotionally and connect with appropriate resources.

“SCI” typically stands for Spinal Cord Injury, and “Disability Advocacy” refers to the promotion and protection of the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Let’s break down each of these terms:

  1. Spinal Cord Injury (SCI):
    • A spinal cord injury occurs when there is damage to the spinal cord, which can result in a range of physical and sensory impairments. These injuries can be caused by accidents, falls, sports injuries, medical conditions, or other traumatic events.
    • The extent and severity of a spinal cord injury can vary greatly, and it can result in partial or complete loss of motor function and sensation below the level of the injury.
    • People with SCI may face numerous challenges in their daily lives, including mobility, independence, and accessibility issues.
  2. Disability Advocacy:
    • Disability advocacy involves efforts to support and empower individuals with disabilities to ensure they have equal access to opportunities, services, and resources in all aspects of life.
    • Disability advocates work to raise awareness about disability-related issues, fight against discrimination, and promote policies and practices that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
    • Disability advocacy can encompass a wide range of activities, such as lobbying for legislative changes, providing information and support, organizing awareness campaigns, and offering legal assistance to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities.

Education and Training:

David Hale has a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and has 8 years of experience in SUD and Co-Occurring mental health counseling.

He is knowledgeable about various treatment modalities, such as individual counseling, group therapy, and harm reduction. He understands co-occurring disorders where many individuals with addiction.
